ABOUT OSTEOPATHY
Osteopathy is
‣ A medical system of diagnosis and treatment by palpation and manual intervention complemented by health education and prevention approaches.
‣ Based on the recognition of the role that the musculoskeletal, nervous, circulatory and visceral systems plays in the body’s continuous effort to resist and overcome illness, disease, injuries and traumas.
‣ A system of manual manipulation useful in stimulating the body’s ability to fight disease, restore health and repair injuries and traumas.
Osteopathy works to restore the structure and function of the body to a state of balance, homeostasis and harmony of the neuro-musculo-skeletal and circulatory systems, so helping the whole person.
It must be emphasized that osteopathy is not an alternative to conventional medicine but can be an effective complement to modern medicine.
Osteopathy involves “thinking outside the box”. In conventional medicine, the focus is often on treatment of the painful area and managing the pain by medication.
Osteopathy is a system of natural, and holistic medicine that seeks to find the original cause or source of your pain and reduce the effect of different stressors in your life by supporting the inherent ability of your body to correct dysfunctions and restore a vibrant healthy functioning. If a problem in a distal area is causing your pain, the pain is not going to be resolved by local treatments. Very often small restrictions in the tissue lead to impaired circulation causing tissue quality to deteriorate. Deteriorated tissue restricts mobility causing pain and eventually leading to failure of function.
The focus in osteopathy is to discover the source of your problem and treat the systems involved to effect overall change in the body. Often stress is a important factor contributing to injuries, tension and illnesses; osteopathic approaches and techniques are excellent in reducing the effect of these stresses on our body systems.
